As a Middleware Engineer within the Infrastructure Engineering & Support team, you will be responsible for the engineering, evolution, and operational support of enterprise middleware platforms, with a strong focus on IBM MQ, Apache Kafka, Elasticsearch, JBoss, and Apache Tomcat.
The role is positioned in the Engineering (L3) function and covers design, standardization, automation, performance optimization, and resilience of middleware infrastructure supporting critical business applications. You will work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, security, and operations to ensure middleware platforms are scalable, secure, compliant, and production-ready.
The role also includes participation in 24/7 on-call support, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and support of production GO-LIVE activities

What you'll be doing

Middleware Engineering & Design
  • Analyze business and technical requirements and assess onboarding on private cloud/on-prem middleware platforms
  • Design, deploy, configure, and evolve IBM MQ, Apache Kafka, Elasticsearch, JBoss, and Tomcat platforms
  • Define and maintain standard architectures, configurations, and patterns
  • Contribute to lifecycle management and obsolescence planning
IBM MQ Responsibilities
  • Engineer and administer IBM MQ queue managers and clusters
  • Configure channels, queues, security policies, and HA/DR setups
  • Ensure message reliability, encryption, and compliance
  • Perform deep troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Apache Kafka Responsibilities
  • Engineer and administer Apache Kafka clusters
  • Manage broker configuration, topics, partitions, replication, and ACLs
  • Implement Kafka Connect and Kafka Streams use cases
Elasticsearch Responsibilities
  • Design and manage Elasticsearch clusters
  • Optimize performance via shard allocation, lifecycle policies, and query tuning
  • Ensure stability, data protection, and capacity planning
Application Server (JBoss / Tomcat) Responsibilities
  • Engineer, configure, and maintain enterprise application server platforms based on JBoss / Red Hat JBoss EAP and Apache Tomcat
  • Support application onboarding, deployment models, and runtime configurations for Java-based applications
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and resilience of application server environments
  • Perform performance tuning, JVM optimization, and capacity planning
  • Troubleshoot complex application server and middleware integration issues
  • Support production GO-LIVE activities, upgrades, and migrations
Automation & Engineering Excellence
  • Develop automation for provisioning and lifecycle management
  • Use configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Reduce manual activities and improve reliability
Monitoring, Incident & GO-LIVE Support
  • Monitor middleware platforms and address performance and capacity issues
  • Provide L3 support and participate in on-call rotation
  • Support production GO-LIVE activities and major changes
Security, Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with security and audit standards
  • Maintain runbooks, documentation, and knowledge bases

What you'll need to succeed

IBM MQ
1. Extensive experience and strong understanding of IBM MQ clusters
2. Hands-on experience with IBM MQ installation, migration, and configuration
3. Experience in setting up new MQ environments for project delivery
4. Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with RDQM (Replicated Data Queue Manager) / IBM Native HA
5. Proven ability to identify MQ-related issues and perform troubleshooting, including RCA
6. Experience with MQ SSL management – installation, configuration, and certificate maintenance
7. Familiarity with MQ tools such as MQMON and RFHUTIL
8. Understanding of messaging concepts – pub/sub, point-to-point, and MQ infrastructure objects
9. Good understanding of ITIL processes, including handling incidents, service requests, changes, and problem tickets within SLA
10. Willingness to support on-call rotations, weekend activities, and regular meetings
11. Ability to provide technical documentation and deployment support

IBM IIB / ACE
1. Support and administration of IBM IIB/ACE on Linux/Solaris
2. Experience in supporting deployed message flows
3. Ability to set up IIB/ACE environments for new projects
4. Experience with SOAP, REST APIs, XML, and JSON
5. Familiarity with security configurations (SSL/TLS, certificate management)
6. Hands-on experience with message flow development and support
7. Proficiency in ESQL, Java, and integration patterns

Good to have: JBoss, Apache Tomcat, WAS, Kafka, Elastic
